This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use the Collective mobile application (the "App"). By using the App you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your name and email address, and we store a securely hashed password. We also assign you a user ID.

Profile and inventory content. We collect the content you create, including your profile photo, inventory item names, descriptions, categories, conditions, locations, and the photos you attach to items.

Network and activity. We store your connections ("network"), follow requests, and the checkout requests and transactions you create or participate in.

Camera and photos. With your permission, the App accesses your camera and photo library to add profile and inventory images. Images you capture for auto-recognition are sent to our servers and to a third-party AI provider as described below.

Notifications. If you enable push notifications, we collect a device push token so we can deliver notifications.

Technical and diagnostic data. We collect limited technical information needed to operate and secure the App, such as error and diagnostic logs, and basic request metadata.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  1. create and manage your account and authenticate you;
  2. provide the App's features, including your inventory, network, and transactions;
  3. recognize items from photos you submit;
  4. send you notifications you have enabled;
  5. moderate content and enforce our Terms of Use;
  6. maintain the security, reliability, and performance of the App; and
  7. comply with legal obligations.

Photo Recognition and AI Processing

When you use the auto-recognition feature, the photo you capture is resized on your device and sent to our backend, which forwards it to OpenRouter and the underlying AI model provider to identify the item. Photos submitted for recognition are processed to generate item details and are not used by us to build advertising profiles.

Service Providers

We share information with service providers that process it on our behalf to run the App:

  1. Cloudflare — application hosting and image storage;
  2. our managed PostgreSQL database provider — data storage;
  3. Resend — sending account and verification emails;
  4. OpenRouter and its AI model providers — photo recognition; and
  5. Expo — delivering push notifications.

These providers are only given the information necessary to perform their services and are required to protect it. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or tracking.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the App. When you delete your account, we delete your account information and associated content, including your inventory, photos, locations, transactions, and network connections, subject to any records we must keep for legal or security reasons.

Your Choices and Rights

You can update your profile and inventory within the App at any time. You can delete your account from the Settings screen, which removes your account and associated content. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and secure session storage on your device. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

User-Generated Content and Moderation

The App allows you to share content with your network. We provide tools to report objectionable content and to block abusive users, and we may review, hide, or remove content that violates our Terms of Use. See our Terms of Use for details.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated within the App where appropriate.
